Decision- making

What if trying harder to make the “right” decision is actually keeping you stuck? When OCD gets involved in decision-making, the fear can sound very reasonable: “But what if I regret it?” “What if I’m overlooking something?” “What if I make the wrong choice?” So you analyse a little more. You research a little more. You ask someone what they think. You check how you feel. And maybe you tell yourself: “I’ll decide tomorrow.” The problem is that these behaviours can provide temporary relief while reinforcing the underlying fear. They can teach your brain: “I need more certainty before I can decide.” “I need reassurance before I can trust myself.” “I won’t cope if I make the wrong choice.” And when you repeatedly respond to doubt this way, you don’t get much opportunity to discover something incredibly important: You can make a decision without being completely certain — and cope with whatever comes next. Self-confidence doesn’t necessarily grow from finally finding the perfect decision. It can grow from making reasonable decisions while uncertainty is still there… and discovering that you can handle being imperfect. The goal isn’t to become someone who never doubts their decisions. It’s to become someone who doesn’t need to eliminate every doubt before moving forward. #OCD #OCDRecovery #OCDAwareness
