Hello everyone! Hope you are having a good Saturday. Why does it help to talk about how we feel? First of all, who you share your feelings with is fundamental. Be vulnerable with someone who deserves to see that vulnerability, and therefore they need to be safe and you need to feel safe with them. Feeling heard, seen, or understood by someone compassionate can help your body shift out of fight-or-flight mode and putting your feelings into words can help calm emotional reactions. This is called affect labeling, and it helps engage parts of the brain involved in emotion regulation. Sharing your feelings with someone who responds with empathy can reduce shame and increase self-compassion. Also, when emotions feel stuck in your head, talking can help you think more clearly and see possible solutions. Sometimes, saying how you feel is the first step.
