Hi everyone! Many people who get panic attacks are scared of fainting. Feeling faint and actually fainting are not the same. During a panic attack, your body goes into fight-or-flight mode. Your heart rate increases. Your blood pressure rises too. Fainting is usually linked to a drop in blood pressure, not an increase in blood pressure, making fainting during a panic attack, unlikely. Panic attacks also involve hyperventilating. When you breathe too quickly, your carbon dioxide levels drop. This can cause dizziness and lightheadedness, making you fear you are going to faint. In general therefore, fainting during a panic attack is unlikely. There is one exception to the above. People with a blood-injection-injury phobia can have a different response. When faced with blood or injections, their blood pressure may drop suddenly, which can make fainting more likely. If you actually faint during a panic attack, speak with a healthcare professional. It is important to rule out other possible causes. You can find a link to my video below. Disclaimer: The above is for information purposes only.
