The last time I got a hair was last December so it's been a while. I tend to get anxious in that setting - classical overstimulation. I went with my mom; a part of me feels some shame over needing a safety person but I wanted a haircut and I knew having her there would help a lot. The exposure that I experienced was being in that environment, and also choosing a haircut and not rushing it. Usually I just cut it short and simple, but today I asked for something I actually wanted and that felt empowering. I'm glad I went, and I'm excited to go again and to make an actual choice without rushing or compensating cause of my anxiety. Next time I'd also like to not need a safety person, but regardless I'm happy I cut my hair. It felt like literal shedding of the past year.
