I’ve been thinking a lot about perfectionism lately. Not just the standards I set for myself. The standards I sometimes set for life. For other drivers. For work. For parenting. For relationships. For how a day “should” go. The truth is, perfection is not attainable. I know that logically. But sometimes I still catch myself feeling frustrated when reality doesn’t meet a standard that no human, including me, could consistently achieve. Today’s win was noticing that. Noticing that some of my frustration wasn’t coming from what was happening. It was coming from expecting life to be smoother, people to be better, and situations to unfold more neatly than they ever realistically could. And honestly? That sounds exhausting. So today I practised something different. I let the road be imperfect. I let people be human. I let myself be human too. Because the road doesn’t need to be perfectly smooth to get me where I’m going. People don’t need to be perfect for me to appreciate them. And I don’t need to be perfect to deserve kindness. Perfection was never the goal. The goal was always to keep moving forward.
