Ever since I got a panic attack on the way to my daughter's school to collect her, and then I felt full of shame (what kind of mother...), and I thought it is unacceptable - going by car was my safety method. Yesterday I visited my daughter at a school event during the day (I went to see their charity run), and I went by foot, 2,5 kilometers, but it was waaaaay out of my comfort zone. I did it! Then I stayed and watched the program. Then my daughter had this idea that she will come home with me for a couple of hours before her father collects her (I am divorced and we practice shared custody...). I said yes, but I was exhausted from managing my big adventure, so on the short way to the bus station a panic attack began to rise. But I got on the bus anyway. I managed to keep the attack at a bay, and I also accepted that if it gets ugly, I will just go through it, even if my daughter has too see that (until now I have always managed to hide these from her). It took a while for it to pass, but in the end, I was there, and I accepted it! Still, I hate how panic attacks make you detached from reality, and I really strongly feel that the detach me from my daughter, and I am suddenly on my own bubble of fear and discomfort, and I cannot really be there for her!... What are your experiences as parents with panic and anxiety disorder? Please share some tips. :) (Also, I am Hungarian, English is not my mother tongue, so sorry about the potential mistakes...)
