Last night, a sudden event occurred that I won't dive into (rather focus on my win instead of the trigger). While experiencing something that would have been the perfect recipe for a panic attack, and an heightened nervous system response, I actually somehow managed it very well. I could feel myself on the cusp of anxiety, feeling some of the symptoms brought on by the event, but I stopped and reminded myself that anxiety is a signal, not a fact and I can choose to act from a place of calm versus a place of fear. Although it was definitely uncomfortable, I feel super proud of myself for even talking to myself and pausing to re-frame the experience and how I had been reacting to it. Sometimes all it takes is that split second, the space "in-between" the panic and the calm to decide where you want to be!
