I’ve made it a personal mission to get out of the house more often. Usually, I deal with a lot of anxiety leading up to going out , it kicks in before I leave, ramps up right before I arrive (or sometimes once I’m already there), and then kind of comes and goes like a rollercoaster throughout the night. But usually, after the initial spikes, it settles into something manageable, and I often end up having a pretty good time once everything is said and done. Last night was a great example. I went to Michigan’s Dream Cruise with my husband (my safety person), my friend, and an old friend I haven’t seen in three years. Beforehand, I was already planning my “escape routes,” trying to figure out what would be a reasonable time to leave in case things got overwhelming. That’s pretty normal for me. But once we got there, it actually turned out to be so much fun! I thought I’d only last a couple of hours, but instead I ended up staying out until 1 a.m. — a whole six hours!
