The past two weeks I have been taking a virtual design discovery course focused on architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning to get outside of my comfort zone and test the waters on whether I want to pursue either of their fields. Needless to say, I am completely and utterly terrible at virtual design but I've embraced being bad at something? I know this might sound strange but so much of my anxiety feeds on perfectionism and wanting to get every tiny detail right but this course has forced me to release perfection and strive for "good enough"; there is no way I can master the art of design in two weeks, especially as someone using these digital design tools for the first time. I've also had to get good at presenting my mistakes to my peers and studio instructor who is, by the way, a totally competent Harvard graduate. It has been stressful finishing these daily exercises since I'm a bit behind but next week is my last week on the program and I just want to prove it to myself that I can do a hard thing. Being the least knowledgeable in the room can be liberating, and it feels nice to embrace my mistakes - it feels freeing to not pretend to know what I don't know. I'm the most imperfect student! 🤓 P.S. - I took a break the other day to go to my garden cause I was couped up inside this past week doing the class, and this really pretty flower showed up
